MILLSTREET CELTIC 1996

NEW ZONE FOR WEST END BOYS

(MILLSTREET CELTIC)

It is all change at Millstreet.

Millstreet Celtic, in their second season in the AUL, are very

much in the running for the title in AUL 2A. The changes? They

include a change of management, a change of league, the signing

of new players, and a change of name.

For two seasons, prior to joining the AUL, the Millstreet outfit

played in the Kerry League under the name of West End Utd. But

it was more a case of dead end until the change of direction for

1994/95 which saw them enter the AUL and win promotion at their

first attempt.

Millstreet were one of the teams in the running for the December

Team of the Month Award, a month that started with a sweet 1 - 0

success over Afton Villa in the quarter-final of the Murphy's

Stout Saxone Cup.

On the final day of the old year, table toppers Brogeen Rovers

travelled to Millstreet for what was billed as Duhallow's answer

to a Celtic v Rangers clash (it was not indicated which was

which).

The derby encounter gave Millstreet the opportunity to avenge two

league defeats during last season and they did it in style,

taking the points on a 4 - 0 scoreline. The victory kept

Celtic's title interest on the boil. They are 8 points behind

the leaders but do have six games in hand.

Overall, the team is looking forward to the second half of the

season. They have much to play for in the league and are

especially awaiting the Saxone semi-final clash against high

flying Bandon Town. If they keep up the good work, they'll

surely get another chance in the Team of the Month competition.
